PDQ Assistant Overview
The PDQ Assistant helps you troubleshoot devices, manage packages, and investigate deployments in PDQ Connect. Ask questions about the page you’re viewing, request additional information, or describe an action you want to take. The Assistant asks for your approval before performing actions.
What the Assistant can do
| Area | Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Devices | Search device details, review inventory and scan data, and run commands to investigate issues or perform tasks. |
| Packages | Search and inspect existing packages, research software installation methods, and create, edit, or duplicate packages. |
| Deployments | Review recent deployments and device-specific logs, and deploy packages to devices or groups. |
For example prompts and step-by-step workflows, see PDQ Assistant Use Cases.
Open the Assistant
You can open the Assistant from a device, deployment, or package.
- Open a device or deployment, or create or open a package.
- Click Assistant at the top of the page.
- Enter a question or describe the task you want help with.
The Assistant uses the current page as context. For example, when viewing a deployment, you can ask why it failed without entering its name.
Reference specific devices, packages, or groups
Use @ mentions to identify the devices, packages, or groups you want the Assistant to work with. This helps clarify your request when discussing resources beyond the current page.
Continue a conversation
You can continue the same conversation as you move between device, deployment, and package pages. The Assistant retains context from earlier messages in that conversation.
Separate conversations do not share memory.
Review and approve actions
The Assistant asks for approval before performing actions, such as creating a package, deploying software, or running a command. Review each proposed action before approving it.
For device requests, the Assistant uses existing inventory and scan data when available. If it needs additional information, it can propose a command from PDQ’s curated command library or generate a command. The approval prompt identifies the command’s origin.
Deployments and commands initiated by the Assistant are attributed in the audit log. Assistant-initiated commands are also identified in the Commands tab.
For requests with multiple actions, you may need to prompt the Assistant to continue after an action completes. For example, after approving package creation, ask the Assistant to deploy the package.
Supported platforms and limitations
The Assistant can help with devices and deployments on Windows and macOS. Package assistance for macOS is not currently supported.
The Assistant currently cannot:
- Access device vulnerability details or device scanner details.
- List group members or inspect group filters, although it can deploy packages to groups.
- Manage automations.
- Retrieve historical command output.
Manage access
An Administrator can enable/disable the PDQ Assistant for your organization.
- Open Settings
- Select AI tools
- Enable/disable Assistant
Early access
The PDQ Assistant is available at no additional cost during early access. The early access period is currently expected to continue through the end of 2026.
